Quail Unlimited Sponsored “Top-Up” Grants for State Biologists
Rocky Evans from Quail Unlimited National has graciously offered, in conjunction with local chapters from around the country, to provide travel grants for state biologists to attend Gamebird 2006 in Athens.
These grants are designed to fill the gap between what might be available in tight state budgets and the need for biologists to attend and present at the conference.
Applying for these grants is very simple. Click the following link, which will create and address an email in your default email application. Then, simply paste your presentation information (including your name, address, employer, abstract title, abstract, and amount requested - see example below) in the body of your email, and send it to the conference organizers.
We will collect these over time and in conjunction with QU link the request with key chapters.

Paper or Poster Title: Habitat Use by Reared and Wild Quail on Farmland in Southernstate
We studied habitat use by hand reared and wild transplanted Northern Bobwhites (Colinus virginianus) on farmland in Southernstate. We radio-tagged a sample of 100 pairs for spring release. These were located daily throughout the spring and summer 2005. The hand reared quail preferred to live in fields containing free-range chickens. The wild transplanted quail preferred to live on the borders of agricultural fields. Our results suggest that reared quail now think they are chickens, leading us to suggest that quail biologists now refer to themselves as chicken farmers.
